Baltimore Ravens’ 24-Game Preseason Win Streak Comes to an End After Loss to Washington – Let’s Take a Look Back at Their Record-Breaking Streak

Baltimore Ravens’ 24-Game Preseason Win Streak Comes to an End After Loss to Washington – Let’s Take a Look Back at Their Record-Breaking Streak

The Baltimore Ravens joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1996 when Art Modell decided to move the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. Since then, they’ve been one of the more successful teams in the league – compiling a 243-190-1 regular season record and a 16-12 playoff record over the past 27 years.

But we’re not here to talk about their success in the regular season or the playoffs. In fact, we’re here to talk about something that doesn’t get talked about enough – the preseason. The games might not mean much to the average fan, but they’ve meant a lot to the Baltimore Ravens over the past eight seasons.

That’s because they went on an impressive 24-game winning streak in the preseason between 2016 and 2023 – the longest preseason winning streak in NFL history. It’s five games more than Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers, who went on a 19-game winning streak in the preseason between 1959 and 1962.

The Baltimore Ravens already owned the record heading into the 2023 preseason – they had won 23 consecutive preseason games before their 20-19 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on August 12. Of course, the Washington Commanders had to come in and spoil the party after eight successful years.

The two teams were neck-and-neck all game long. The Commanders held a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime with a 17-14 lead. The Ravens ended the third quarter with a slight 21-20 lead and extended the lead to 28-20 one minute later, but Washington ended the game strong.

A touchdown pass by Jake Fromm with four minutes left and a 49-yard field goal by Joey Slye with nine seconds left gave the Commanders a 29-28 lead – which they rode to victory. The Ravens followed that up with another loss last weekend – just like that, they went from 24 straight wins to two straight losses.

To commemorate a record that won’t be broken anytime soon (if ever), let’s take a look back at each of their 24 consecutive preseason wins since 2016.

What’s Next for the Baltimore Ravens?

The Baltimore Ravens were proud of their 24-game winning streak in the preseason – it’s something their franchise (and the NFL, in general) will remember forever as they etch their record in history. Justin Tucker (the team’s kicker and one of two players to be a part of the streak from start to finish) said it best:

“It’s a reflection of our organization, our coaching staff and our young players working their tails off this time of year to put a good product on the field, and a product that we can all be proud of. More than anything, it speaks to the way our coaches develop us and they way they ensure our young guys buy into what we do around here.”

Aside from Tucker, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley is the only other Baltimore Ravens’ player who was with the team during the entirety of the streak. So, what’s next for this team? Well, they’ll have to wait until next year before they start a new streak – but right now they have the 2023 regular season on their mind!
