Chicago Bears Snap 14-Game Losing Streak With Week 5 Win -- Here's a Look Back at Their Miserable Losing Streak

Chicago Bears Snap 14-Game Losing Streak With Week 5 Win — Here’s a Look Back at Their Miserable Losing Streak

The Chicago Bears are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history, but they haven’t been playing like it as of late. They’ve only made the playoffs in 2 of the past 12 seasons and have gone through five head coaches (and 15 starting quarterbacks) during that span – which is not a recipe for winning football.

The team was hoping Justin Fields would be their savior – drafting him with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and doubling down on that decision by trading their No. 1 overall pick this past offseason (essentially turning down a shot at Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud). Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out yet.

Fields has played in 32 games and received 30 starts over the past three seasons. He has a 6-24 record in those starts and has thrown for 5,255 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions. Of course, it’s not just him to blame – no one has stepped up and it has led to a lot of disappointed fans week after week.

The past 12 months have been extra miserable for the Chicago Bears. The team went on a 14-game losing streak that began with a loss against Dallas on October 30, 2022 (Week 8 of the 2022 season) and ended with a win against Washington on October 1, 2023 (Week 5 of the 2023 season). It wasn’t pretty.

Justin Fields was the starting quarterback for 12 of those 14 games, but he has been playing better the past two weeks. He threw for 335 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception in the Bears’ Week 4 loss to the Broncos and followed it up with 282 yards and 4 touchdowns in their Week 5 win against Washington.

The Bears have to feel like a large weight has been lifted off their shoulders now that their 14-game losing streak has come to an end – all thanks to a 40-20 win against the Commanders last Thursday (Oct. 5) night. Who Owns the Longest Losing Streak in NFL History?

The Chicago Bears set a new franchise record for most losses in a row with their 14-game losing streak between 2022 and 2023. They became just the 25th team to lose at least 14 games in a row and the most recent team to do so since the Jacksonville Jaguars lost 20 games in a row between 2020 and 2021.

That Jaguars’ losing streak is absolutely atrocious, but it’s still not the worst the NFL has ever seen. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a 26-game losing streak between Sept. 12, 1976 and Dec. 4, 1977, and the Chicago Cardinals lost 29 consecutive games in a row between Oct. 25, 1942 and October 7, 1945.
