After an unfortunate series of losses for the Chicago Cubs, two of their players were happy to share uplifting news: Ian Happ and Justin Steele are engaged!
The Chicago-based team has undoubtedly been facing struggles throughout the 2022 season with their 9-17 record, but perhaps all the players need is love.
Before the Cubs emerged themselves in a five-game playoff between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox, the team had a small relaxation interval. Incredibly, both the outfielder and pitcher used this time off to propose to their long-term girlfriends.
Taking to Instagram, Happ shared a photoset of him and his partner Julie Mazur’s exciting engagement. Going the classic route, the outfielder got down on one knee and presented his lady with a ring that symbolizes their love. Both halves of the couple could be seen grinning from ear to ear and celebrating with a glass of champagne. “The best is yet to come,” the MLB player wrote in the caption of his post.

Happ’s engagement was so significant that he skipped out on his podcast, The Compound. As the main host of the show, his absence was prevalent. “The Boss has a pretty good reason to not record the podcast tonight,” the podcast’s Twitter said, attaching photos of the newly engaged Happ.

However, Happ had to share the spotlight with the Cubs’ relief pitcher, Justin Steele, as well. On the same day and in a similar fashion to Happ, Steele announced that he proposed to his girlfriend Libby Murphy.
Also taking to one knee, the pitcher presented his now-fiancée with a gorgeous ovular diamond ring while overlooking the Chicago River. While embracing each other, the happy couple popped champagne and gave each other a quick kiss to seal the deal.
“They say nothing lasts forever. But they haven’t seen us together,” the Cubs relief pitcher wrote on social media, speaking of his adorable relationship with Murphy. “Forever and Always. This life and the next. I’ll always find you.”
In addition to Steele celebrating his engagement, Murphy wrote a tribute to her baseball-playing fiance on Instagram. Explaining that the Cubs player is her soulmate, she expressed nothing but happiness over her engagement.
“I’ve dreamt of this day for as long as I can remember. Justin Steele you were worth the wait. You are my soulmate, my best friend, my voice of reason. You show me patience, true love and kindness,” she wrote. “I cannot wait to spend forever making memories with you.”
